Sarah Palin Will Not Speak at the Republican National Convention

The debate over palin speaking at the RNC that began here inexplicably evolved into an assurance here and here that Donald trump certainly would be speaking has finally met its natural end. Sarah Palin will not be a speaker at the Republican National Convention.

There are organizers will change their mind, but I think this puts an end to Palin’s influence beyond the grassroots effort. The fact she made the announcement herself is a ace saving move in light of not being invited to speak. .

I assume the news puts to rest any further fears Trump will be speaking? I have been saying for a while now the GOP wants to ditstance itself from Trump regardless of any popularity the real estate mogul has gained from his birther rhetoric. Mitt Romney could not get any further away from Trump when he received his endorsement without stepping into another zip code. There is no one in the Republican establishment who is going to allow him anywhere near a microphone at the convention.

Note, too, the similar rationales for excluding Palin and Trump and the similarities of their responses. Both are dabblers in politics these days with more interest in chasing media cash. Mike Huckabee is more or less in the same boat. He has all but killed off his political career in favor of hosting a talk show, yet he is still a cut above Palin and Trump in status among the GOP powers that be. Does anyone dispute that? Even Trump and palin know that. Read her note I linked to above. She put the decision on herself to emphasize house and senate races rather than speaking to the party faithful. Trump hinted--from his own mind, no doubt--”they” wanted him to speak, so as to make it appear not speaking would be his decision. Reality has dawned on both of them which side of the bread is buttered that does not take Dick Cheneny’s snickering at Palin or Romney’s distancing from Trump to serve as their epiphany.

On a more serious note, Newt Gingrich is not speaking, either. This convention is attempting to avoid fireballers as much as possible in order to focus on serious policy. That above anything else says Palin the grassroots pleaser and Trump the birther are not going to be a part of the convention.

Maybe Palin can take part in the next Celebrity Apprentice. She might even be able to land that talk show I suspect she really wants out of it. Arsenio Hall managed to ink a new talk show deal after winning Celebrity Apprentice last season. Someone it just feels natural Palin and Trump would use each other that way.
