Is the Newt bubble happening in SC?Yes. He is gaining on Mitt Romney. At least one poll has him in the lead. Former Herman Cain supporters are flocking to Gingrich after Cain's recent scandals and foreign policy flubs.
Nevertheless, Gov. Nikki Haley is buddies with Michele Backmann, so if she is still around after Iowa and New Hampshire, i would expect to see a big push from the popular governor for Bachmann. How much of a factor that will be is not clear, but I imagine Bachmann is more likely to siphon support from Gingrich than Romney.
It would not surprise me for Romney to tank in South Carolina either way. South Carolina derailed John McCain back in 2000 when the prevailing thought among voters is that he was a closet liberal. There is an even bigger suspicion that is true of Romney now.
